This Privacy Policy describes how Pumice Press (Christians Thrive Trust, "Pumice Press," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, discloses, and protects information about you when you visit pumicepress.com (the "Site"), purchase our books or services, interact with our AI-powered book tools, or otherwise communicate with us (collectively, the "Services").
We are a book publisher and content company. We publish titles through Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing ("KDP"), participate in the Amazon Associates affiliate program, and offer interactive tools that let readers chat with and explore our books using artificial intelligence. We may also contact you by email, SMS text message, and phone call as described in this policy.
Please read this policy carefully. By using the Services, you confirm that you have read and understood this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Services.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Information You Provide
We collect information that you voluntarily give us, including:
- Account information: name, email address, password, profile photo, username, and similar identifiers when you register for an account.
- Contact information: mailing address, phone number, and any other details you submit through forms, contact pages, comments, or customer-support communications.
- Purchase and transaction information: billing address, the products or services you order, and order history. Payment card numbers are processed by our payment processor (e.g., Stripe) and are not stored on our servers.
- Reader-content information: questions, prompts, highlights, notes, bookmarks, conversation history, and other content you submit when using our AI book-interaction features (collectively, "Reader Inputs").
- Marketing preferences: your subscription status for newsletters, SMS lists, and promotional updates.
- Survey, contest, and feedback responses when you choose to participate.
1.2 Information We Collect Automatically
When you use the Services, we automatically collect certain information about your device and how you interact with us:
- Device and connection data: IP address, browser type and version, operating system, device identifiers, screen resolution, language preferences, and time zone.
- Usage data: pages viewed, links clicked, search queries, scroll depth, referring URLs, session duration, timestamps, and which features you use within the AI book tools.
- Cookies and similar technologies: we use cookies, pixels, local storage, and SDKs to operate the Services, remember preferences, measure traffic, and (with your consent where required) deliver targeted advertising. See Section 7 (Cookies) for details.
- Approximate location: derived from IP address. We do not collect precise GPS location.
1.3 Information from Third Parties
- Amazon and KDP: when you purchase a Pumice Press book through Amazon, your transaction is governed by Amazon's privacy practices. Amazon does not share individual customer identities with us by default. We may receive aggregated sales, royalty, and review data from KDP.
- Amazon Associates: when you click an affiliate link on our Site and complete a qualifying purchase on Amazon, we may receive a commission. Amazon shares limited, aggregated attribution data with us; Amazon does not share your name, shipping address, or order contents.
- Social login providers: if you sign in with a third-party identity provider (e.g., Google), we receive the basic profile information you authorize that provider to share.
- Service providers and analytics partners: hosting, analytics, fraud-prevention, advertising, and email/SMS delivery vendors may share usage information back with us under their respective agreements.
- Public sources: publicly available data, such as public social-media posts that tag or mention us.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide, operate, and improve the Services, including our websites, AI book-interaction features, customer accounts, and customer support.
- Process and fulfill orders, deliver digital and physical content, issue refunds, and administer affiliate-program commissions and attribution.
- Generate responses to your prompts and questions through our AI features (see Section 3).
- Personalize content, recommendations, and reading experiences.
- Send you transactional communications such as order confirmations, shipping updates, account notifications, security alerts, and policy changes.
- Send you marketing communications by email, SMS, or phone where permitted by law and (where required) with your consent. You can opt out at any time.
- Measure performance, conduct analytics, and run A/B tests to understand how our Services are used.
- Detect, prevent, and respond to fraud, abuse, security incidents, and violations of our Terms of Service.
- Comply with legal obligations, respond to lawful requests, and enforce our agreements.
- With your consent or as otherwise permitted by law, for any other purpose disclosed at the time of collection.
Legal bases (EEA / UK / Switzerland users): we process personal data on the bases of (i) performance of a contract, (ii) our legitimate interests in operating, securing, and improving the Services, (iii) compliance with legal obligations, and (iv) your consent (which you may withdraw at any time).
3. AI Features — "Talk to Your Books" and Related Tools
Pumice Press offers AI-powered features that allow you to ask questions about, summarize, and interact with content from our books and other materials (the "AI Features"). This section explains how these features handle your data.
- Reader Inputs may be processed by third-party AI providers. When you submit a question or prompt, we may transmit your Reader Inputs — together with relevant book content or context — to large-language-model providers (such as OpenAI, Anthropic, or similar) to generate a response. These providers act as our processors / sub-processors and are contractually bound to handle the data in accordance with their terms.
- We do not authorize providers to train public foundation models on your Reader Inputs. Where supported, we use API endpoints and data-processing options that exclude your content from being used to train the providers' general models.
- We retain conversation history on your account so you can return to it. You can delete individual conversations or your entire history from your account settings.
- Quality, safety, and abuse review. A small percentage of inputs and outputs may be retained for a limited period and reviewed (in aggregated or sampled form, by a limited number of authorized personnel or trusted vendors) to detect abuse, debug errors, evaluate quality, and improve safety filters. We do not sell this content.
- AI outputs are generated and may be inaccurate. AI Feature responses are produced by statistical models and may contain errors, omissions, or fabricated information ("hallucinations"). They are not professional, legal, medical, financial, or other expert advice. You are responsible for verifying any output before relying on it.
- Do not submit sensitive personal information (such as government IDs, financial-account numbers, full health records, or other sensitive data) to the AI Features. The Features are not designed to receive that information.
4. SMS, Phone Calls, and Other Communications
With your consent, we may contact you by SMS text message and phone call for purposes that include order updates, customer support, account-related notifications, and (where you have opted in) marketing.
- Express written consent. By providing your phone number and opting in, you give us your express written consent to send you recurring text messages and place automated, prerecorded, or artificial-voice calls related to the Services. Consent to marketing communications is not a condition of any purchase.
- Frequency. Message frequency varies. Standard message and data rates may apply.
- How to opt out. You can opt out of marketing SMS at any time by replying STOP to any message. Reply HELP for help. You can opt out of marketing calls by telling the caller you wish to be placed on our internal do-not-call list, or by emailing hello@pumicepress.com. Even after you opt out, we may continue to send transactional or service-related communications you have requested.
- Carrier disclaimer. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
5. How We Disclose Your Information
We do not sell personal information for money. We may disclose your information to:
- Service providers and processors that help us operate the Services, including hosting (e.g., Vercel), database and storage (e.g., Supabase), payment processing (e.g., Stripe), email and SMS delivery (e.g., Postmark, Twilio), customer-support tooling, analytics, fraud detection, and AI model providers (e.g., OpenAI, Anthropic).
- Affiliate and advertising partners, such as Amazon Associates, to attribute referrals and measure performance. These partners may set cookies as described in Section 7.
- Professional advisors (lawyers, accountants, auditors) under confidentiality obligations.
- Authorities and other parties when we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to (i) comply with applicable law, regulation, legal process, or government request, (ii) enforce our Terms of Service, (iii) protect the rights, property, or safety of Pumice Press, our users, or the public, or (iv) detect, prevent, or address fraud, security, or technical issues.
- Successors in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, bankruptcy, receivership, sale of company assets, or transition of service to another provider. Personal information will be treated in accordance with this Privacy Policy or any applicable updated policy that we provide notice of.
- With your consent or at your direction.
"Sale" or "sharing" under U.S. state laws. Some U.S. state laws (such as the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended) define "sale" and "sharing" broadly to include certain advertising-related disclosures. To the extent our use of cookies, pixels, or advertising partners constitutes a "sale" or "sharing" under those laws, you have the right to opt out as described in Section 9.
6. International Data Transfers
We are a global business and our service providers may operate in countries other than your own, including the United States. When we transfer personal data out of the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, we rely on lawful transfer mechanisms such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses, the UK International Data Transfer Addendum, or applicable adequacy decisions. You may contact us at hello@pumicepress.com to request information about those safeguards.
7. Cookies and Tracking Technologies
We and our partners use cookies and similar technologies for essential site functions (authentication, security, load balancing), preferences, analytics, and (with consent where required) advertising. Categories include:
- Strictly necessary — required to operate the Site and cannot be disabled.
- Functional — remember choices like language and region.
- Analytics — help us understand traffic and feature usage.
- Advertising / affiliate — track referrals to Amazon and measure campaign performance.
You can manage cookies through your browser settings, our cookie banner (where available), or, in certain regions, by submitting an opt-out request. We honor recognized opt-out preference signals such as the Global Privacy Control (GPC) for users in jurisdictions where required. See our Cookie Policy for more detail.
8. Data Retention
We retain personal information for as long as necessary to provide the Services, comply with our legal obligations (including tax and accounting requirements), resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. When personal information is no longer needed, we delete or anonymize it. Specific examples:
- Account data: retained while your account is active and for a reasonable period after deletion to handle residual obligations.
- Order and tax records: retained for the period required by applicable tax, financial, and consumer- protection laws (typically up to 7 years).
- AI conversation history: retained until you delete it; aggregated safety samples kept for a limited period.
- Marketing data: retained until you opt out, with a suppression list maintained to honor your opt-out.

Shine the Light (California). California residents may request information about our disclosures of personal information to third parties for those parties' direct-marketing purposes by emailing the address above.
10. Data Security
We implement administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect personal information, including encryption in transit, access controls, audit logging, and least-privilege principles for our team and processors. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. You are responsible for keeping your account credentials confidential.
11. Children's Privacy
The Services are not directed to children under the age of 13 (or under 16 in the EEA / UK), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from such children. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, please contact hello@pumicepress.com and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.
12. Third-Party Sites and Affiliate Links
Our Site contains links to third-party websites and services, including Amazon. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those third parties. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. Once you click an affiliate link, your activity on the third-party site is governed by that site's privacy policy.
13. Do Not Track
Some browsers transmit "Do Not Track" signals. Because there is no industry standard for how websites should respond to such signals, our Site does not respond to them at this time. We do honor recognized opt-out signals where required by law (such as the Global Privacy Control).
14. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will post the updated policy here with a new "Last updated" date and, where required, provide additional notice (for example, by email or in-product notification). Your continued use of the Services after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
